Red face I just adopted my first kitty!!

my name is kaycie and i just adopted my first kitten!!! i am so super excited of course its my first cat ever so im not exactly sure what im doing yet but catching on fast. i just have a simple question. well he as a bad case of diarrhea. its basicaly a light brown water. i was just wondering if there is a certain food i should be feeding him or something? right now i am feeding him a kitten food that is hard but with some soft pieces. also my fiance fed him a little milk from his cereal bowl this morning could the super sugary water have caused it? i have only had him for a day and a half so im not sure if he has had the diarrhea for awhile or not. but yeah i was just wondering if maybe i need to feed him something different? oh yeah he is 2 months old and his name is whiskey. i would appreciate some feed back pretty please. thanks bunches

Did the diarrhea start after your bf gave him the milk from his cereal bowl? If so, that is probably the cause as most kittens/cats cannot tolerate cow's milk.

If not, then it could be from worms or many other things. Has he been to your vet yet for his first checkup and vaccinations?

As far as nutrition I would suggest feeding him a premium quality canned food such as Wellness grain free.

This website has some excellent information....

Congradulations! Your kitty should not be having any milk but should be eating canned food only and a raw diet is preferable. A good canned is Kitten Wellness. You can usually find this at a pet food store, but not in a grocery store. Check the ingredients on the can, the first few ingredients should be meat (not byproducts those are feathers, feet, etc.), not grains as cats digestive systems are not made to eat corn, wheat (have you ever seen a cat grazing in a corn field??)

Did you purchase any cat stands for you kitty to climb? If not there should be one in each room that they most frequent. Your kitty will want to scratch his claws when he wakes up and it is natural for them to climb, better the stand than your curtains or furniture, lol.

We really love pics, are you able to post some?

Ditto on what the others said. When I got Vlad a year ago, I hadn't had a cat in YEARS. It was suggested to me to give him milk one evening, and I thought he'd like it. He had a bit and that evening had terrible diarrhea. I found this site the next day and realized cat's don't digest milk well, and most are lactose intolerant. So yeah, if his poopies started after you gave him the milk, and he's had none since, it might have been that. But, a visit to the vet to have him checked over would not be a bad idea.

Congrats btw.

you can buy lactose free milk in the pet stores

When i adopt a pet form an agency i always bring her/him to the vet just for a checkup because althjough most adoption agency's are pretty carefull It's easy to miss a problem with a cattery full of kits
