Puppy cone head

Question: What is the knobby part on top of some dogs' heads?

Sheeba has one. Been looking it up online and people keep calling it "smart knot" or "knowledge knot."

Is this just a puppy thing or does it smooth out as it grows?

I found this pic on the net just as a reference.

Same dog as an adult, no more knobby cone head.
