Exotic Pet
I was looking at a Serval (Felis serval) for a pet. Just wondering if anyone has had experience with one, and if it's legal in Toronto.

I would agree 100%. Most people who opt to have exotic pets end up having problems with them. These are not domesticated animals. Why not adopt an exotic looking cat from the over full shelters? Save a Life!

I have one question, WHY ? Do you have plans on having this animal live in your home? Or just look at it in a cage. Maybe a trip to the zoo every week would be better.

Servals are wild cats, and as such are unpredictable, not pet material and should be left in the wild, or in zoos who have the facilities to properly keep and breed them.
If you want a cat with a wild "look", consider a Bengal cat, or an Ocicat. |

you must be bloody kidding
is it really necessary to take so called exotic animals, cant you just get a rough looking cat?? i do not believe any human has the right to remove animals from the environment so you can just go and lock them up for your own entertainment, because that is what you intend to do
.do you care for the environment or do you just have a big ego, so you can say oh well i own a dangerous wild thing, arent i great?? why would you take animals from it when it is totally unnecessary?? do you understand that all animals have a role to play in their own habitats and by removing them you could alter many aspects of that environment?? do you understand that around the world many species are dying, becoming threatened, genetic diversity is becoming limited and becoming extinct, do you think removing animals from the wild will help that?? go and do volunteer work at the zoo, if you really care about animals you would never do this to them. do you really think they want to leave their habitat to come and live in your little jungle enclosure?? have you never heard of the disgusting live 'exotic' animal trade, where many animals are stolen from their habitat and smuggled elsewhere and many dont survive?? knowing this trade exists and that your purchase will encourage this trade will you still do it?? make a moral choice and be a good human, protecting these animals not encouraging their demise.

There are very many sites promoting the sale of servals as good pets, here is one that gives the other side of the story

From my research, it seems that Toronto would be a perfect habitat for a Felis serval. Very much like its indigenous habitat of the African Savannah
