Hello all Question about dog toenails

Hi all,

I own a 3yr old canaan/shepardx who seems to have lost the bottom half of his toenail while playing fetch at the park yesterday, he doesn't seem to be bothered too much by it, he is not limping or giving it much care other than the licking from time to time. It is quite red and raw looking but I wonder if he needs to go to the vets or if the vet is just going to tell me to monitor it for infection. Any help would be great!! Thanks

Honestly, I'd go to the vet to be sure. You wouldn't want to underdiagnose him now only to have to amputate something later.

Yeah I agree with Prin.

Something like that happened to my dog last year and we ended up having to take him to the vet because it started to bleed after a day or so.
