Twitching in Hind Legs

We have a 8 year-old Lhasa. About 2 weeks ago we noticed mysterious twitching episodes at night - usually when he's just falling asleep. It typicaly startles him and he abruptly wakes up. He even watches his back-side spasm for a few seconds at times. We've only see this happen late at night so far.

Any advice would be appreciated.

If it only happened when he was asleep I'm say don't worry about it, dogs often have dreams where their legs move - mine has also woken herself up with it once to twice - but it stops as soon as she is awake... but if it continues for any amount to time after he is awake.. I would get him checked by the vet... It could be something as minor as a pulled muscle or as major as epilepsy. You may also want to check with the breeder or the breed org to see if it is a breed specific issue - I'm not familiar with the breed at all so I can't help you there.

good luck

Twitching could even be a flea aggrivation!

As MBRA said muscles spasm as well. I'd just keep an eye on it, if it happens again or more often mention to your vet. If you have a video camera tape it, and show it to the vet...easier for them to understand and make a diagnosis.
