Ottawa...a very different atomosphere here than TO. Still a larger city, but not really very intense, big, tightly packed, etc.

I live in Corktown which is downtown Toronto and borders on Regent Park and just below it is the Distillery District. It is one of the most up and coming neighbourhoods believe it or not. Its really eclectic.
Visit this site, it talks about all the neighbourhoods in Toronto. If your looking for a "whitebread" neighbourhood, north and north east of the core are your best bets. http://www.torontoneighbourhoods.net..._overview.html Here is another plug: http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/Con...=1104534611598 |

Just curious, when you say you are moving to toronto, do you mean "toronto" (as in the old city) or "toronto" as in the megacity. They are two different things.
I grew up in scarborough, which at the time was not toronto, but now it is. Technically Toronto is very large. I will offer some advice, being that I've only ever held jobs in downtown toronto. If you want a job, your best bet will be in the downtown core, as they have lots of jobs there. However, I think i read that you are an engineer?? There aren't a lot of those jobs here in the downtown. Best bet for those jobs will be in the industrial areas in pockets around the mega city. I have lived in Scarborough, Oshawa, Mississauga, Brampton, and right downtown (also Antigua...but I think that's a little out of your way). I have to say the best place I ever lived in is Brampton, where I am now. When I lived in all the other places, when you try and get into downtown, it's "H*E*double hockeysticks (as my mother puts it)". In Brampton, you hop on the go train and you are downtown faster than it would take to take the subway or to drive. Brampton is cheap and nice and quiet. It's also close enough to Toronto, that it only takes 25 minutes (not in rush hour) to drive down for clubs etc. |

I heard that they are exanding the GO train service north, that should be helpful since you are an engineer! Do you get the funny hat, too?
What?

Whoops--I'm in communications/media. My better half is the engineer!! That being said, I can safely say I do not get a special hat.....not even a special notebook!

I would say the Beaches is very overpriced for what you get. It is a really nice area to visit but you could never get me to move back there again. You will never find parking in the summer unless you have a driveway (not a lot do) It is always packed with strollers and people you dont get any quiet times in the summer. It is fun when you first move but then your friends wont visit in the summer no where to park all the places are packed. I am now living in High Park and love it I also loved living right downtown in the core, believe me it was quieter then the beaches in the summer. I pay the same rent for a place that is almost double the size of the place in the beaches. I have a huge off leash area in High Park not just dog hill but a lot of trails as well. I work in film and tv and most of the production offices are downtown so you can get to them easily. Alliance Atlantis is on Bloor at Church. City tv on Queen st.
Britishvixen I know where to get Cadburys yes the real stuff not the canadian or us wannabe. The specialty candy stores sell it and I got a big tin of Cadbury finger from UK for Christmas. In my stocking Top Deck and Mint Crisp is your mouth watering yet. I will try and get the proper store names for you.

Thanks for the tip mastifflover. We've been reasearching the High Park area online to find out more about the apartments, transit, etc. It does sound like a nice place to live. We are also hoping to get a spacious apartment--we have a 800 sqft one bedroom right now so living in a 500 sqft apt would not be a move I'd like to make any time soon!

I live in an old warehouse building but there are some great locations and not tiny places if you dont mind me asking what price range are you looking to stay within? I see signs all the time when I am out walking so I will keep you in mind.
