FWIW, there's a current ongoing case out here in BC, about a self-proclaimed rescue being alleged to have stolen a number of dogs, even breaking into people's homes to take pets that they've deemed "in need of help":

I'll tell you this, if some self-righteous twit "rescued" any of my fur babies right out of their home, blood would be spilled in the most painful manner.

I suspect I have the same guess as to "crazyanimallove's" identity as you do. Not much of a stretch of the imagination...

The fact is, it's easy for anyone to claim to be a "rescue" organization and go around snatching animals for whatever reason they deem to be valid. Someone may get the idea that it's mistreatment for dogs to live in yellow houses, and proceed to "rescue" any dogs they decide are suffering in such an environment. We have "rescues" grabbing dogs tied up outdoors... what if someone next gets the idea in their head that dogs SHOULD be outside and that they need to "rescue" any dogs that are living indoors?

As someone else noted previously, the SPCA is the *only* body (outside of the police) with the legal authority to seize animals... anyone else doing it, under ANY pretenses, righteous, fraudulent or otherwise, is committing theft. Period.
