Vet Euthanizia Mistake
I can't even begin to imagine how horrific this would be
.http://www.mlive.com/news/detroit/in...e_redford.html and a comment regarding the situation from one of my new favourite dog blogs written by a vet http://www.pawcurious.com/2010/10/ne...ver/#more-5194

How horrible. I didn't understand why my vet listened to Snowballs heart for quite a while, now I do.

How awful for the owner of this poor dog. I guess the vet was trying to save money and not give the proper amounts of the drugs. Because vets are so drastically underpaid as we all well know he needed to save money and to not return the call from the owner despicable

Wow, I couldnt imagine that happening. Wont the dog now have withdrawls from the pheno?
When my Keira had to be put on pheno for seizures we had to wean her off it, since it is a lethal dose given to the dog to euth. wouldnt the dog seriously need to have it weaned out of its system now since the owner does not have the heart to "kill twice"? Poor family, poor dog

Wow, what a crappy vet. Whenever I am in a euthanasia I'll check the dog or cat or whatever animal it may be easily a dozen times before they go into the freezer.. I once saw a dogs tongue twitching a few minutes after it was PTS and started freaking out! Turns out it's just a normal thing from all the muscles relaxing.
You are supposed to check the heart a few times, both by hand and with a stethoscope.. and check their gums to make sure they are pale and pinch their paw/poke them in the eye to also make sure. If the vet had bothered to do any one of these steps they would have surely noticed hmm.. sometimes a bit funky here.. I know of this happening in shelters sometimes, because some shelters (not around here) are either cheap or have no money and have to use as little of the drugs as possible. But a vets office surely has enough money they could have done it properly ![]() The stuff we use around here is 1cc for every 10 pounds, but even for a neonatal kitten you use atleast a half cc just to be certain it's going to work and work as quickly as possible.

That poor dog. What a stupid vet. He should get his licence pulled or really heavily fined...
