Recurring Pyoderma....
![]() ![]() <---- Good ways to express how I'm feeling this morning.....Took Patrón to the vet again yesterday evening... They just LOVE when i come in there...I never spend less than $200 at a visit....and all the interns and assistants know us by name....good thing I have a good job! Doc Howell did a skin scraping this time to check and see if he didnt have some mite activity going on. I hate when they do the skin scrapings  Patrón doesnt like it! BUT there arent any mites! SO! He got a cortisone shot to calm the skin down, and antibiotics to kill the infection in his skin... Anyone know of ANYTHING to help with his skin?? I am at a loss... He gets 50mg of Benadryl twice daily, two of the fish oils capsules ( that are AWFUL smelling by the way ) the medicated shampoos... oatmeal baths... The vet said to just wait and see what happens as he gets older, since he's only just 11 months old...he could grow out of some of these problems.

I'm sorry, I don't know anything about Patron's history so forgive me if these are repeat questions.
Has he ever been tested for allergies? What kind of food does he eat?

We know he has allergies to grass and pollen, detergents, and cleaning stuff. But my vet told me to hold off on the allergy testing until we can get the skin infections wiped out.
I feed him Wellness Core Ocean. Its a grain free food....

But if his allergies are causing the skin infections, then how is he supposed to get better if he's still being exposed?? Are the skin infections responding to the antibiotics?
I read in Whole Dog Journal a while back about using infusions made from marigolds on severe skin problems. Let me go see if I can google up something about that.

Breeze: We've had him on ALL KINDS of food... He was on Natural Balance Potato and Duck for a while, which is supposed to be good for allergies, and seemed to have one of his worse reactions on that food. I'm really hoping to get into the BARF diet... I just need to get as much info on it as I can first!
kandy: I have no idea why my vet said to put off the allergy testing, except that I dont think they will even perform the test unless his skin is completely clear since they could mistake a reaction from something else as a reaction he could have to whatever allergen they had injected him with.

Here's a link to preparation methods for marigold, including a cream based one for skin infections. I don't know if you would have access to a homeopathic store where you could buy dried marigold or not.
http://www.victoriagraceandco.com/he...-marigold.html So did Patron have demodectic mange at one time?

He was diagnosed about 7-8 months with demodectic mange by a vet clinic that was HORRIBLE. They sold me all this garbage that I didnt need, and then had him on Ivermectin for 70 days. They also had him on antibiotics at the same time. What I think is that he had the pyoderma and the antibiotics they were giving him at the same time as the ivermectin cleared up the bumps they thought were caused my the mites.
SO, my current vet and I both strongly believe they were treating him for mites that he didnt have! ( The clinic was Banfield, and all you have to do is google them and you'll read about how awful they are! )

ABM have you considered changing his food to an allergy formula like wellness solutions or natural balance?? there is a limited ingredance in these ones that might help with an allergy dog..
could there be something in the food that might be causeing the skin problem??
