Puppy Obedience Classes - best age to enroll
We are getting a new puppy in August, she will be 6 weeks then. My questions are this:
1.) How old does the puppy have to be to start a puppy in obiedience training? 2.) I live in Edmonton, can anyone suggest a food training facility? Thanks in advance!! Katrina

Where are you getting your puppy from. Most breeders will not allow a puppy to leave his mum that early.

She'll be just over 6 weeks, and the breeder said that is the absolute earliest she'll let her go.

It would be in the best interest of the pup and your family, to leave the pup with its mother for at least 2 more weeks. Honestly, the difference between some good and some bad pups is when they leave their mother. They learn all sorts of things from their mother, that they just can't learn at home i.e. nipping, biting, playing etc..... I know you are anxious to get the pup, but be patient and you will be much happier.
Most obedience schools will take pups starting at 8 weeks. Heather and her 3 Golden Girls |

In many places it's illegal to sell puppies before they are 8 weeks old,and no reputable breeder would do so.
The extra two weeks are very important to a puppy's development. |

I don't mean to be rude, but that isn't what I was asking about. I was asking about obedience classes. As for the age of the puppy, we've spoken with numerous breeders and every single one said they will let them go at 6 weeks. As well when I lived at home, we had both our dogs bred through the breeder we rec'd them from and the puppies were taken at 6 weeks.

I believe pups can start puppy socialization classes after they've completed their vaccinations.

Sorry
I know you have said you were not inquirying about the age to get your puppy but I just have to say...
I contribute ALOT of my dogs GREAT behaviour to the fact they were with there mom until 9 weeks. I have seen other puppies that were taken sooner and as stated before problems like nippping are an issue with MOST pups that are taken sooner. It is hard to wait I understand but in the long run it will save you so many frustrations. Please atleast think about it
