Hi everyone

I have a 3 year old beagle that I have moved from a town house with yard to an apartment on the 15th floor. My pet has been here one month and we are having great trouble with him. He was perfectly fine until we moved. He has seen the vet and has been put on an anti anxiety drug and now valium has been added. He refuses to enter our new bedroom at all and he seems to have panic attacks where he actually shakes and pants and cries. He does this also at night after his last walk and its time to come in. We have also tried a DAP infuser. Nothing seems to help. He also has a 5 month old brother and that doesn't help. Has anyone had this problem and can anyone help out here. All ideas any one has may help.

A very tired mother of 2 beagles

What is a DAP infuser? Do the drugs work at all?
Not having a dog, I am hardly qualified to comment, but I will anyway
If you're not seeing any change with the meds (you didn't say), I'd take him off them. Get some Rescue Remedy from the health food store and put a good 20-30 drops in his water bowl. It is completely non-toxic. Repeat every time you provide fresh water.
I'd let him sleep where he wants at this point. Poor guy.
You might want to consult an animal behaviourist. I hear some of them are pretty good.
Is he getting lots of exercise?
It's a big change for you, so it has to be huge for him. Is the puppy OK?

Is there anything in the bedroom that may be new to him, for example a ceiling fan.

Most anti-anxiety drugs take 4 to 6 weeks to start working,

What do you do when he startS shaking and trembling? Do you try comforting him???

Hi

Thanks for the kind words. Nothing new in the bedroom. We do try to comfort him but he doesn't want it. He likes to lie under the table in the living room to sleep. He is truly our baby. We love him alot.

Could it be related to going on the elevator? Maybe you could try and let him walk down the steps as many floors as possible and then take him back up the steps. If there is no apparent anxiety after that it would certainly narrow things down. You said he gets scared and cries when it's time to come in so maybe he is dreading the ride back up.
Just a thought.

Hi
I have tried rescue rescue remedy already with no results. A DAP infuser is something you get from a vet. He is going to see a behaviour specialist soon. Puppy is great!! Thanks for your reply.
