How to tell if my dog is Sick?

My dog looks like she has recently put on some weight. Also, her skin appears to be red under her fur. Last she feels warm, like she is possibly running a fever.
My dog is 6yrs old, she is a golden retriever- beagle mix.
My husband thinks im just worrying too much but I dont know.
She has no signs of coughing, sneezing or discharges.

Should I take her to a vet or am i just worrying too much?

I would call your vet and describe symptoms. When in doubt - to the vet.
