The Pack's Touching Tutorial

For Boo and Jemma...

Boo and Jemma have suddenly found themselves responsible for a new puppy, Lily, who could use a little "touchy-feely" socialization. This puts Boo and Jemma in a very awkward position as Boo and Jemma are not the "touchy-feely" type...

The Pack has been discussing what to do to help Boo and Jemma get over their touching issue. The Pack is decidedly "touchy-feely" in nature. At a special meeting last night, the Pack finally decided that they would put a Touching Tutorial together to help Boo and Jemma deal with the social demands of a new puppy.

Although the Pack loves to cuddle now, it was not always so.

At first, it was difficult to open up, share, and get comfortable with one another:


So start slowly...butt-to-butt on a couch, not quite touching is a good first step:

Then comes the actual "first touch":



Once the ice is broken, practice cuddling one-on-one:

Be prepared for setbacks...sometimes things can still get rude!

Sometimes a fresh boy might try to steal a kiss when you least expect it:


Sometimes you end up duking it out in the middle of a good nap:

But eventually, everyone makes up and you move to cuddling with more than one:

And, with a little effort and patience all around, you eventually get so you aren't happy unless you're touching someone all of the time...

Wow, Prin, they really are at that hiney-to-hiney, not-quite-touching stage, aren't they? Four years, you say? LOL...past time for them to start with the "first touch" stage, then!

Homework for Boo and Jemma: Put a paw out, gently tap your sleeping neighbor and withdraw, tap, withdraw, tap, withdraw... When it no longer wakes your buddy, leave paw draped across your buddy's neck and resume your nap...

When you've mastered this stage, let us know and we'll move on...

LOL no they don't get that far. One tap and it's a "Harrrumph!" and somebody gets up and walks away.

btw, we even mess with them. Boo will be looking out the window and Lily will walk by and brush him and he growls a bit and then refocuses outside and we go and play with his hiney a bit and he gets soooooooo angry but never looks (focused on outside). Finally, he'll get fed up and turn around with a warning grunt and see it's us and be soooo embarrassed. It's hilarious. Lily was in another room at one point and he was still growling at 'her'.
