Sick Chihuahua. Already went to Vet
Hi,
I have a four month old Chihuahua who has been acting strangely lately. She seems to be shaking more, more tremor like than her normal nerves. Also, when she looks right at you, her head constantly moves to one side. Its almost like she is drunk. She has even fallen down. She is eating normally, and will run around and play, but I can tell she wants to sleep more. I took her to my vet, who ran all of the necessary tests, but came up with nothing. Anyone else have see anything like this? I have been giving her Nutra-cal just in case its her blood sugar, but that doesn't make a difference. This is my first little dog so I'm clueless. Thanks. |

Has she been checked for epilepsy?
Can you take a video when she is doing the motions you mentioned and take it in to show the vet? A few of our members have done that and the vets really appreciate it. Good luck.

Will quite often take more than one trip to the vet to find out what's wrong. Video of the pup is a great idea to help the vet understand.

This sounds like it could be the beginning stages of epilepsy. I have a friend who has a little poodle (Tad) that was diagnosed with this a few years back. He would become idled and his little head would just sway. It appeared like he was drunk and he did not know who I was during this brief period (under a minute). When my friend took him to the vet and explained the symptoms I had noticed, he tested him for epilepsy and sure enough that's what it was. He takes 1/2 tab of phenpbarbital 2x a day and has done so for the past 8 years. He has not had anymore seizures but must be tested every 6 months to see if it is affecting his organs----no effect thus far. Do pursue this and I wish you lots of luck in your pursuit. Be insistent that the correct tests be performed; get a 2nd or 3rd opinion if necessary. Our babies depend on us!!!

Kind of an odd question here, but did you happen to give your pup a flea treatment? I only ask because it sounds like a really bad reaction I've seen from certain medication.
