I'm not sure. I think that regardless of the protein source, good or bad, too much does make the kidneys and liver work harder. Can the kidneys and liver take it? Depends on the dog.
But for once (!!) this theory will be tested in humans in the long term- we just have to wait and see what the results of all this Atkins stuff is. I know in the short term, from the people I know who were on it, in the first year, their short term memory was really affected. But then again, my "sample size" was pretty small, right?
