I think it would be best to just keep the dogs/cats out at all times to avoid dog hair.
We don't let Odin in the bedroom at all, and there is still dog hair on everything.
As for vacuums, we just bought an AMAZING vacuum. It's a dirt devil canister vac with a hepa filter. It has two attachments for the floors, a power head for carpets and such, and a floor head, which has a place for a swiffer cloth!! I'm trying to find a pic of it now. We got it at Costco for $139.

Only ours is purple, and has the swiffer floor head. Not all of them come with the swiffer head, it was like a bonus, but it is amazing!
