I have had constipated kitties too. Not fun for them for sure. My sister's cat also has bowel issues and on the vet's advice she gives her a 1/4 tsp of clearlax or restorlax in her wet food once a day and that keeps her regular. Without she gets bunged up. There's no taste to the clearlax, in the drugstore. I would get her checked out though. As you said being longhaired, could be a hairball moving through. Too of mine are longhaired too, so once in awhile they get a bit constipated, I just start giving them temptations hairball treats for a few days and they get things moving. They won't have anything to do with the paste stuff. Try adding a spoonful or two of warm water to her food.
