Sadly, most vets are totally clueless about what cats should be eating. That doesn't mean that they're bad vets, I just wouldn't take any nutritional advice from the vast majority of them. Any vet that recommends kibble for a cat with urinary tract issues is one of the clueless ones. A couple of articles on that subject, if you feel like reading some more:
