I'm afraid that the only way you're going to get any answers is to have the vet run some tests. We're not vets here and no reputable vet would make a diagnosis over the internet without seeing your cat and running some tests.
Is there anyone you can borrow the money from? Family? Friends? It does sound like you're going to need some answers soon because your cat is ill. Maybe call the vet back and ask what test they think would give them the best information and do that one first?
