We feed Molly (she's between 13 and 14 years old now) in her own room - breakfast and supper. The food left overnight is accessible by both her and Mr Miyagi. We started doing this to a) monitor how much she was eating (along with Mr Miyagi), and b) it was MUCH less stressful for her (Mr Miyagi is a bit of a bully at times). She eats very well on her own, while Mr Miyagi eats from the dish in the kitchen.
If you can find a separate area, it certainly wouldn't hurt to try!
