Wall shelves are also cheap and easy to put up. I bought some sturdy ones from Ikea and put them in a series of steps going to the top of one of my bookshelves. It's one of Peppercorn's favourite hangouts. Here's a website to give you an idea (with much fancier and more expensive shelves, mind you!):
