sammiec I once felt the same as you do honest but after learning more about the newer fences I have no problem putting them on my dogs. As for how tight they are, the collars don't even touch their skin. I have them so loose that the beeping is all they hear, if they go further they still won't feel anything as it is hanging down to low to touch them. With that said ...I do that because I KNOW my dogs will not try to leave, there is no stray animals around here to come get my dogs all the dogs that do live near me are friends of my dogs and come play anyway... I have over 1000 feet of fence, they go no where near the line too much room to play.
