It's very important to feed canned food to neutered male cats, for urinary tract health.
Cats do not drink enough usually. Unlike dogs, they are not big drinkers because in the wild they eat meat only and get moisture from that. They are strict carnivores who need meat.
Dry food combined with not enough water can cause very concentrated urine, resulting in crystals, stones and blockages.
Cats eating canned food virtually never have these problems.
