Chesco SPCA free to seek homes for 300-plus dogs Associated Press
OXFORD, Pa. (AP) - Resolution of an animal cruelty case last week has freed authorities to begin the process of finding new homes for more than 300 animals taken from an illegal kennel earlier this year, officials said.

A total of 333 dogs along with several other animals were taken from the Lower Oxford Township kennel Feb. 10 in a raid by the Chester County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Three people, including nationally known breeder Michael Wolf, were convicted in April of failing to provide clean living conditions for the animals. They appealed, but last week pleaded guilty to 60 counts each of animal cruelty.

Chester County SPCA spokesman Chuck McDevitt said some ownership disputes remain, but officials hope to have most of the animals ready for adoption by Wednesday.

"Right now, we're microchipping all of the animals, bathing them and assessing them medically," McDevitt said. "We're hoping to make an announcement in the early part of the week."

As part of the June 19 plea agreement, Wolf was placed on 15 years of probation, during which time he will be barred from contact with animals. He was also fined $6,300 and ordered to pay more than $122,000 for housing and treating the animals.

"It's sad that it has to end this way," Wolf told reporters outside the courtroom.
