46 - Getting your dog to do its business on command - Interview with Tenderfoot Training

February 16th, 2009 by Marko

Pet podcast #46 features an interview with Elizabeth Simpson of Tenderfoot Training. Many dog owners have issues with getting their dogs to do their business outdoors during a walk in a timely fashion. A frequent problem is defecation in the house AFTER the dog has just come in from a walk. Don’t worry, your dog is not broken and it’s not trying to upset you in anyway. In this interview we discuss what it takes to get your dog to poop and pee outdoors when you want it to.

#43 - How to greet strange dogs - Interview with Tenderfoot Training

October 14th, 2008 by Marko

Pet podcast #43 features an interview with Doug Simpson of Tenderfoot Training. In this interview we discuss how to greet strange dogs and common mistakes people make when greeting dogs. One point in particular is that contrary to popular thinking, we don’t need to shove our hands in a dog’s face for the dog to smell us to know that we are ‘good’. That can make a strange dog VERY uncomfortable and besides, a dog’s nose is 1000 times more sensitive than a human’s nose. This means that if the dog can see you, the dog can ALREADY smell you from afar.

Pet podcast #32 features an interview with dog trainer - dog whisperer Doug Simpson of Tenderfoot Training. In this podcast we talk about what is a dog whisperer? These days we hear the term ‘whisperer’ used loosely (dog whisperer, horse whisperer, ghost whisperer) and tend to associate the term dog whisperer with only one trainer Cesar Millan. Doug demystifies the philosophy and we discover the secrets behind dog whispering.

Pet podcast #23 - Interview with Tenderfoot Training

Pet podcast #23 features an interview with Elizabeth Simpson of Tenderfoot Training. This is a fascinating pet podcast where we discuss why both spayed and neutered dogs, as well as intact dogs exhibit humping and mounting behaviours. Elizabeth also explains how to deal with this issue. This week’s ‘Good Mews’ story is a story from the August issue of BusinessWeek where we learn that in this pet economy you can buy artificial testicles for your dog called Neuticles. The premise behind this product is that your male dog or cat should not feel bad about its appearance after it has been neutered.
