I would have trouble deciding as well. The one thing that happened to my daughter when she was a young girl. She would sleep at her cousin's house in her bed and the boston terrier sometimes growled and even nipped her cause she was I guess invaded his space or maybe he was protecting the girl. Dogs love to cuddle with their family, so I guess it really depends on the temperament of the dog and maybe the age of the child? See what the others think.
