Champion Pet Foods has been making pet food since 1975 at their own manufacturing plant and I've never questioned the connection between both companies.
Regarding the formula change when they introduced the Acana Provincial line I don't believe that they cheapened any of their ingredients. If I find some time I could try to find out the exact changes.
