Merrick Pet Food

Another member asked me to post what I know about Merrick Pet Food and as I didn't want to hijack the thread I decided to start a new one.

A couple of the links I had saved said they are no longer available except for this one .....

http://thepetfoodlist.com/forums/index.php?topic=205.0

And this info was what I copied and saved from another forum ....

Quote:
Garth Merrick's ownership of a rendering plant is common and quite well publicized information. Below is a link and an excerpt of information from the link regarding the Merrick's ownership of Tejas Industries. Any number of resources can be found in a google search to back up the Merrick's business ownership and involvement, mainly with Garth and Tyler Merrick.

Use the information for what you will in making a decision on your dog's diet, this is just a statement of fact, not opinion.

This is a statement from this website (http://www.amarillo .com/stories/ 010404/bus_ packerslook. shtml):

"Garth Merrick, owner of Tejas Industries, a rendering plant in Hereford, said they did not get all the downer cattle before and haven't seen any change in their business so far.

Merrick said his facility only picks up dead animals and anything they would render goes back into the non-human food chain, i.e. poultry or hog feed.

Rendering, he explained, means cooking and any normal bacteria is killed in the rendering process. He said if he uses any meat and bone meal in a pet food, it comes from a USDA-inspected rendering plant."
