Must admit I've had a cattle dog that was super wary of snakes too, Melinda, but the fact that there was a Brown snake going into mouse holes under the concrete of her yard was what freaked her out. She could smell it where the concrete didn't fit snugly around the gate post and I'd wondered why she'd taken to jumping in and out of the gate very fast. Once I spotted the snake I knew why. The last thing you want here is a dog that wants to go for snakes, too many end up dead(my vet said if one of mine got bitten not to bother trying to get it to him, we are too far from any Vet clinic actually), but if you have children it is certainly great to have a protective dog.
