I second bendy's advice - My vet said he really prefers to just leave them alone, but if they are loose and at risk of snagging this would be painful and traumatic if it happened...and no one wants that! As long as they're in close to the foot they should be fine to just leave. Your vet will be able to advise when he examines them.
