Mealtime Manners

Another question about my little 4-month old. Judging from his behavior when I eat, I'm pretty sure that his previous family not only fed him people food, but did so during their own mealtimes. Whenever I eat anything containing meat or dairy products, he is up on the table trying to help himself, even if he's just eaten. I'm left trying to eat with one hand while continually putting him back on the floor with the other. My last cat would occasionally try to talk me into giving her some of my food, but I don't remember her being this brazen about it.

With other unwanted behavior, it's easy to distract him with a toy. But when it's a matter of food that he thinks is rightfully his, there is no distracting him. Naturally, I don't give him people food. What else should I be doing to teach him better manners?
