The vets I deal with through TCR abort many many cats. As far as I know they have not lost any of the cats. I know they abort pretty far into the pregnancy as well.
Benni was pregnant when she was spayed. I just made sure she was kept very quiet for the first few days afterward. Within a week after she was back nursing her kitten she still had with her from before I got her. She didn't seem to mind. In fact it seemed to soothe her.
The biggest thing is the vet needs to be aware that the cat is pregnant and will take extra care during the operation.
Let's hope it isn't a pregnancy at all.
