The use of cranberry extract may help to inhibit E.coli from adhering to the wall of the bladder. It may or may not help in cases of urinary tract infections caused by other types of bacteria. In human females, E.coli is a common bacteria that is seen to ascend the urethra into the bladder. This may be why cranberry juice or extract is commonly used with people.
