Ditch the prescription food. What brand/type (ie dry or wet) is it? Honestly, there is almost never a good reason to fork over the big bucks for such poor quality food. A much better idea would be to feed a high protein, low carb
wet food (still using portion control), or even balanced raw if you're up for it. The protein is more likely to satiate your kitty than the excessive carbs that are in most "diet" cat foods. Check out this link for more details:
