I don't know if anyone saw this video, and I couldn't find an article about it. But there was a dog who had fallen through the ice in Denver Colorado and apparently the police and National Guard are not required to rescue a stranded animal, so this may have been law enforcement but may not have been. They didn't know if it was anyone official or a private citizen.
But the video showed a man outfitted in a wet suit and flippers, goggles etc. making his way across the ice when the ice gave way on him also. So he swam, breaking a chunk of ice with each stroke until he reached the dog. Then he secured the dog and brought him back. He had help on shore, pulling on a pole attached to the dogs harness and they were both pulled to safety.
The dog (beautiful large black dog) trotted right onto land wagging his tail and greeting everyone on shore and they said that both human and canine were fine!
