Patty, you are actually braver than I am. I bought a Dremel and then was too chicken to use it, thinking how awful it'd be to get sheltie hair tangled around it. Yikes!!

I think it's a real buzz when they suddenly accept what you have to do. We had one dog, bought as an adult, that was terrified and obviously his previous owner had hurt or traumatised him in some way. I spent so long playing with his feet, just lightly skimming the clippers over a nail at a time, never trying to cut them, but while, yes, I could do them alone in the end, he was never in the pack milling around, he'd still lie down quite a distance away and hope that we'd miss him. Poor dog.
