Rescued Kitty, Jacques!

Hi all,
i'm new here! And I recently rescued a stray cat, he climbed a tree and could not get down so I got the ladder and coaxed him down, I immediately fell in love him, he is so sweet and just loves to cuddle and sit on our lap. Naturally I first made a vet appointment, and isolated him away from my other two cats. I ordered a panel of blood work to check for feline AIDS, and leukemia, because the vet noticed he had gingivitis and wasn't sure if there was underlying causes. My question is this: could gingivitis be something totally unrelated to a serious disease? The vet really scared me by saying it, but I think she had to in order to be on the safe side and I'm glad I agreed to it because I wouldn't want him to live with those diseases. I lost one cat to feline AIDS after he was attacked by an infected cat. Just looking for some advice.

PS. They put him on Clavamox to clear his infections (he has a claw that was ripped out and got infected as well as a sore on his mouth) Also it it weird he is so friendly so i alerted the vet clinics around where i found him incase he had a previous owner, but no calls yet, so looks like i will be keeping him!

Thank you kindly for reading.
