Smokey is in a better place
Smokey showed up in 1996 as a kitten at my parent's front door. Then they unloaded him on us. No regrets. A real good cat who never raised his tail. During the last few years, he started having problems with his back legs. Still managed to make it down the five steps to the enclosed back yard and then back up onto the deck. He was unable to scratch himself so he would meow loudly at me. When I stopped brushing him he would meow again. On a few occasions, he would nip me. His diet was mostly Gold Seal salmon passed through the food processor. He sure had me trained. This last week, he was unable to use his litter box. I had no choice but to put him down humanely. I will be missing his loud meows overnight and in the early morning hours.
