i would say 10-20 min at such a young age is plenty of walking.

the play is better exercise at that age.

the reason i have heard is that young dogs ligaments and muscles are not developed, and too much repetitive motion (walking, etc) can be a lot of stress/strain.

during play they are sprinting, jumping, stopping and changing directions, a much more balanced muscle load.

more vigorous walks can start at around 5 or 6 months, and then you slowly build into longer walks at around 1 yr.

even for a breed that can have hip problems, my vet said to walk my dog a lot, to strengthen the surrounding muscles and ligaments as much as possible.
