Too much salt water is very dangerous for dogs.
Drinking too much can cause upset stomach and dehydration.
It is also bad for sensitive paws and ears.
Make sure you hose off a dog who has played in salt water.
Also make sure he is drinking enough fresh water.
I'd keep a good eye on your dog the next time he plays in the ocean. Another problem like the one you had and I'd definitely consult with a vet.
