Mmmm. ham.
I just bought one like you're asking about last week. It is from Sobeys and is called a "Cook's Spiral Ham". It has a bone ... it's the leg I think. 1.99/lb on sale this week!
The compact ones are like deli meat... pressed (slimy, ick). I HATE those too.
The spiral hams are already cut for you, you just have to cut them away from the bone. They are already cooked but you roast in oven on low heat (250?) for about 2 hours. In the last 1/2 hour you put on a glaze (maple syrup or honey or brown sugar based...) and you can put spices like cloves if you like.
If you don't have Sobeys I would assume they are everywhere right now... they are big (mine was the smallest there at 7 lbs... ) but after they are roasted you can freeze the meat if you want. (cube and put in omelets or whatever)
HTH
