I can't add anymore suggestions than what the others have mentioned. Do put the cat stands in locations that the cat will use. Putting them in an out of the way area is not really helpful. Watch where your cat likes to scratch, or a common walking path and that is the place to put the scratching post. Cats like to stretch and scratch when they wake up so having one in that area may help too.
