In judging drool there are three factors to consider: clarity, texture, and quantity. Although foamy drool may lose some points on clarity, it more than makes up for it in texture. In my long experience as a Drool Contest Judge (

), I've seen more than one dog win the prize-bone paws down with a shoulder-length beaded strand of foamy drool.

Dogs with clear, smooth drool, however, often are able to produce strands many times longer than the textured droolers. A lovely, smooth, shiny, clear ankle-length strand has also been known to win a bone or two...
