Pain meds...absolutely!..........

BUT..........

NEVER ACCEPT METACAM AS A PAIN RELIEVER FOR A CAT!!!!!!!!!!!!

First, for the plain-and-simple version: http://www.metacamkills.com

Metacam is the brand name of the chemical meloxicam.

For more of a science-based understanding:
Quote:
Cats have a deficiency certain enzymes...which are responsible for glucuronidation, and hence their reduced ability to metabolise certain drugs such as...meloxicam.

This makes the cat uniquely sensitive to certain medications, which at doses given at an equivalent dose to dogs is often fatal due to the slow metabolic clearance of these drugs and increased levels during excretion....

There are safe pain relievers for cats
...the safest (fewest side effects) is buprenorphine (often Buprexex). http://www.petplace.com/drug-library...nex/page1.aspx (just close the popup window)

They put the doses in syringes w/o needles so I didn't have to measure anything, just a quick squirt.
Buprenorphine is also dispensed in small syringes....and, it does not need to be swallowed...it's absorbed by the oral tissue...no fuss, no muss....AND SAFE FOR CATS!
