she eats dry food: purina indoor formula, that is what previous owner fed her, she won't touch wet stuff or human food.

Try the second opinion
I wonder about a vet giving dewormer in case of worms. Vet may attribute weight loss to worms? But still can be verified with tests. Why not verify before treating? I would get another opinion before...
