dog clothes

Your instincts are right - golden retrievers do not need winter clothes. They have a double coat that keeps the cold out in the winter and the heat out in the summer. Their feet are designed to...

Interesting info, but not enough evidence for me to stop feeding raw. I still suppport the diet 100%. Common sense around food handling reduces a lot of the risk in passing the bacteria on to humans....

I've had 3 cats and both new introductions were done the same way yours was (because I knew no other way!). We also lived in an apartment back then. The first intro (two female DSHs - the newbie was...

Be careful

Just a warning if you go back - be careful, and don't do anything risky, especially if it's dark out now. You just never know what is going on inside the home, so don't put yourself in harms' way....

raw vs. bagged kibble

I don't understand how this is different if you don't feed raw. If you choose to feed a bagged kibble, aren't you still as fully responsible for your dog's nutrition based on this choice??

raw fed dogs

My dog (nearly 4 yr old GR) has been raw fed since her late puppyhood. I switched her over cold turkey from Nutro kibble. She doesn't eat any grains or dairy, just raw meat, bone, pulped vegetables,...

raw diet

My dog has been raw fed for 3 years now, but I've had a harder time converting my cats - only one of the two seems interested. How long did it take you to make the switch?

Glad you had such great...

peeing & lawn

Just an update to this, I posted that I was going to teach our golden to use her own "toilet" area...so far, so good! I wouldn't say that she's exactly caught on 100%...we've had to rope off the...

treats

Have you tried dehydrated hot dogs? Most dogs love them - just cut into bits and bake on a cookie sheet until they are shrivelled up. You can sprinkle a bit of garlic on them to make them even more...

dog parks/off leash

While I have never been to a small, fenced-in type area used as a dog park, I am a huge fan of designated off-leash areas in cities. I live in Toronto and there's two that I know of right on the lake...

loose dogs

Ummm, not to be picky, but ...how do you know the loose dogs don't leave the subdivision? They are dogs, and dogs wander if unsupervised. To prevent this from happening again I'd suggest you don't...

I am one of the biggest dog lovers there is and I choose to have only one dog (coincidentally a golden retriever). I am an adult who makes her own decisions and could have two or more dogs if I...

bring him, but on a short leash

I wouldn't think twice about bringing my dog to a cemetary...the respectful thing to do of course is keep him on a very short leash, don't let him pee or walk on any headstones, and don't start a...

This morning I was just about to turn into the parking lot at my work when a mini-van hit a squirrel that darted out onto the road. The van didn't even stop to pull over. The poor little squirrel was...

On the flip side, having two dogs is a lot of work, while having two cats is not. At this point in my life I wouldn't dream of getting a second dog. Our golden is well trained and we bring her...

1/2 - 1 tsp sounds about right for such a small dog. I have a 65 lb dog and I give about 1 tbsp a day of a variety of oils. Watch out for any side effects with the flaxseed oil - few dogs actually...

chips vs. tattoos

Fair enough, but the problem with microchips is that there are many different types of chips, and no universal scanning technology. No one method is foolproof.

I would check your dogs ears to make sure the smell isn't coming from there, also her teeth/breath could be contributing to the bad odor. In addition, make sure that your pup's collar gets washed...
