older cat losing weight

I read a post about older cat who lost weight. I didnt see my cats exact siruation so am reaching out for opinions. Over the last year and a half my cat has been losing weight slowly He looks anorexic now. Last june i took him to the vet for complete bloodwoek. He was normal. Mycats appetite is more like a feeding frenzy.the vet put him on flagyl. He is still the same only like a walking skeleton. He is from the shelter so our best guess of his age is 13-15. He also has decided to start peeing outside of his litter box for the last 6 months. I tried to figure out the problem but now I just givie in and use weewee pads

There are members that will be able to provide better insight than I in this matter - but this is not normal in any way. Any cat that goes from normal size to anorexic size in a year has some medical issues.

If a blood test 4 months ago revealed nothing, it does not mean the cat is healthy if it is a walking skeleton. Has any other follow up been done?

Seems clear to me this cat needs additional veterinary care in a serious way and if this current vet is not concerned....I'd consider another vet that comes recommended from someone I trust.

I think it would be a good idea to bring your cat to a veterinary hospital that has specialists so your cat can get a better diagnose.

Do you have a copy of those results? Did they include a T4 and a blood glucose value? What about a urinalysis?

Something like cancer (I don't want to scare you with the "C" word, but it should be considered) wouldn't necessarily show up in blood work. Were any other tests done, like perhaps x-rays or even better, an ultrasound?

What does your cat eat?

Thanks guys for ur feedback. I have owned or shall i say they have owned me- so many cats but never a senior. Mine seem to die young of renal failure (siamese) so this is all new to me. I feed him organic holistic natural- whatever is good for them while i eat tuna. I did research the'c' word supercatmom and yes that does scare me but i have limited funds. I am having his bloodwork results transferred to another vet and go from there . The ultra sound as much as i would like to go the distance is not in my buget and believe me i will always go without so my babies can have the best i can give them. I am just looking for possible diagnosis to offer the vet to explore. Vets nerf some direction too. Pls keep the suggestions coming

Poor baby!

It is so scary when they loose weight, my guy lost 5lbs in about 1 month and started pooping blood, he had IDB. Inflamed Bowel, so tests would show anything (our vet never did any to save us some $$) but putting him on different food as got his weight up.

We put him on Carlyles Just Tuna for cats (80c a tin from Global Pet Foods) and he devoured it, and it didnt upset his tum / he could digest it, so he started to et his weight up.

It could be some sort of food intolerance, it took a long time for him to eventually poop blood but he had been steadily loosing weight for a while. Turns out his body has become allergic to something in his food :( It was so sad to see him to bony, but now hes up to 11.5lbs!

Good luck!
