Strange thing to see with new puppy but mabye im just inexperienced :)

Hi there, I am new to the forums, My name is Lori and HELLO!

I have a 2 month old Golden Retreiver who is playful, eating, drinking, loving, cuddly and all around seems great. He was the runt of the litter according to the breeder and it was evident by his skinny flank. When he came to us 2 weeks ago we worked on making him realize all that food was his and only his, now he knows it and enjoys eating even with my big hand poking around in there :P

Here is my concern for him. He got up from his nap and we went for pees then came inside to eat some chow. I stood above him just being a mom and wanting him to eat and when I looked down at him his flanks look..."sucked in" for lack of being able to describe it. they were sunken on the sides quite dramatically. Once he finished eating and drinking and we walked around they seemed to "pop out" lol hard to describe. has anyone seen this before? again he is acting completeley normal just a visual thing from my side.

Thx guys!

Lori

Welcome to the board, Sherlock Golden. Actually, that is something I've seen. All of our pups' waists did the same thing when they were small. I think it has something to do with muscle mass and lack of body fat--when they lean forward everything shifts forward and you get that skinny-as-a-rail look around the middle.

I think if he's eating and drinking well, pooping and peeing normally and is gaining an appropriate amount of weight for his stage of growth, there's not much to worry about. I'd just wait till his next vet visit and describe what you're seeing.

Welcome to the board, Lori. So when do we get pics of your new pup? :D

Welcome to the board Sherlock Golden!! :goodvibes:

I have adjusted a setting for you that should now allow you to post pix. (It would have happened automatically but due to our pic addiction we can't wait, so I rushed it :D )

If you still have trouble posting pix please let me know - thx.

LOL, that's the vacuum cleaner effect. I'm used to this, having a Lab who still does it at age four. When we say they are like vacuums we aren't kidding. :) It's true, they practically inhale their food. Little monkeys.
