Hi I was wondering if anyone can tell me if a Hibiscus plant is dangerous to cats
Hi, Robin and welcome to the forum.:)
The following website is an excellent source of information on plants that are toxic to animals:
Here is what it says about the hibiscus plant:
Additional Common Names: Rose of Sharon, Rose of China
Scientific Name: Hibiscus syriacusFamily: Malvaceae
Toxicity: Toxic to Horses, Toxic to Cats, Toxic to Dogs
Toxic Principles: Unknown
Clinical Signs: Vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, anorexia.
Do you know the specific botanical name of the hibiscus you're asking about? Not all of them are toxic, although better to be safe than sorry. Here's some info: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/31130769/ns/health-pet_health/t/growing-danger-toxic-plants-pose-pet-threat/#.Tlps5nMmko8
“Most hibiscus are fine, but there are a couple of varieties that are poisonous to dogs in particular, and unless you know which one that is, it can be dangerous,” Tegzes says.
