See the black spots (one on the top of each hindwing)? The fems don't have that.

Hazel - you know everything!! Great pics Chico. I don't think I've seen any Monarch's out in BC since I've been here. Maybe they don't come this far West - Hazel?? I know we had them back East when I was a kid.

There is a small western population that winters on the west coast (California) somewhere. And I only knew about the patches cuz I went to the local nature reserve's kiddy show at their Butterfly House. :laughing: |
